Project Update

The iKNOW Politics team is pleased to welcome Tristanti Mitayanti, Regional Coordinator for Asia Pacific; Sally Shalabi, Regional Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa region and Arabic language facilitator; and Mariam Diallo-Drame, Regional Coordinator for the Sub-Saharan Africa region and French Language Facilitator.

As part of the 53rd Session on the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), iKNOW Politics and its partners held a side event entitled “Getting Ahead: Testimonials of Women in Politics.” The event brought together over 100 guests and hosted a panel discussion facilitated by the Ambassador of Belgium, H.E. Jan Grauls.

From March 7-10, iKNOW Politics participated in the International Colloquium on Women’s Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace and Security hosted by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (Liberia) and President Tarja Halonen (Finland). Over 800 representatives of civil society groups, national and international women’s organizations and governments from Liberia and around the world attended the event.

As part of the 53rd session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), iKNOW Politics and its partners will present an event entitled “Getting Ahead: Testimonials from Women Political Leaders.” The event will bring together women politicians and their supporters from around and will host a panel discussion with prominent women leaders sharing their personal journey in politics.

Strengthening accountability for commitments made by governments will be vital to achieving gender equality and women’s rights, according to a new report released today by the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM).

The International Knowledge Network of Women in Politics (iKNOW Politics) Project celebrates its second anniversary on February 27th, 2009. Since its launch at the 51st session of the Commission on the Status of Women in New York in February 2007, iKNOW Politics has become the premier online network serving the needs of women politicians and their supporters around the world.

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) seeks to hire a Regional Coordinator and French Facilitator for iKNOW Politics in the Sub-Saharan Africa region,based out of NDI’s field office in Bamako, Mali.

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) seeks to hire a Regional Coordinator for iKNOW Politics in the Asia region. Based out of NDI’s field office in Jakarta, Indonesia, the Regional Coordinator would remotely work under the direct supervision of and report on a daily basis to the iKNOW Politics Project Manager (based in Oslo, Norway), and would be responsible for initiating activities to exchange best practices and experiences from among women in Asian politics, grassroots organizations, and sectorswith limited access to technology.
