During the biannual meeting of the Federal Electoral Tribunal, its president, Constancio Carrasco, has assumed the Presidency and the Technical Secretary of the Observatory of Political Participation of Women in Mexico. At the event, Lorena Cruz, president of the National Women's Institute (INMUJERES), and the Director of the National Electoral Institute (INE), Lorenzo Cordova, carried out the delivery of office.

"It is true that the way of life that we have make the time we share with our family shorter, frequently causing long absences that make negotiations with them more difficult, but I would say this is the experience of thousands of women who leave every day to harvest triumphs, to excel in their business, to not be embarrassed by success." These are words by Cristina Gaytán, deputy for the PRD in Mexico.

The UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs adopted in Vienna, Austria, a resolution on the necessity of incorporating the gender perspective to drug-related policies and programmes.

The Congress of the State of Oaxaca approved last 28 January reforming the state law on women's access to a life without violence. Similarly, it also approved the amendment of Article 401 bis of the Penal Code, which deals with political violence against women.

In the state of Morelos (Mexico), it met last January 28 a group of women holding public office occupied or to arrange a special protocol for women who suffer political violence.

The Chamber of the Chilean Senate approved with 35 votes in favor, the new law on political parties, in the absence of some outstanding voting points. This new law aims to advance internal democracy of political parties in Chile and has a special interest in gender equality. Thus, neither men nor women may exceed the threshold of 60% on the candidates for the various elections held in the country.

After an election campaign that had acrimoniously questioned the relevance of the political participation of women, the last elections in Mexico to renew the local Congress in Morelos resulted in the election of six local deputies and six mayors. One of these mayors was Gisela Raquel Mota Ocampo, killed the day after taking office.
