More than 500,000 votes. That’s how many ballots were cast for the top two candidates in Monday’s mayoral byelection.
Together, mayor-elect Olivia Chow and runner-up Ana Bailão represented the dreams of close to 70 per cent of residents who voted in the largest byelection in Toronto’s history. It also means that 7-out-of-10 votes were for mayoral candidates who are immigrant women.
