The London School of Economics has launched a new study that concludes that gender quotas to put women in positions of political relevance are necessary. Women are needed in positions of power in order to ensure gender equality. This quota would include private and public sectors and study places particular emphasis on parity within political parties to ensure processes making decisions free of gender discrimination. It is believed that gender quotas in political parties are needed to increase the already small proportion of women MPs in Westminster, currently representing less than 30% of the total seats. The main conclusions of the study have already been supported by conservative and progressive leaders. The full report is available here.
