The three women parliamentarians who were elected in the 2012 Papua New Guinea (PNG) election failed to win re-election in the 2017 general election. Their electoral defeats only deepen the concern for gender representation in parliament. However, an analysis of their short-lived political careers reveals that their conduct in parliament is consistent with the demands and expectations made of the Papua New Guinean politician. In PNG there are two arenas in politics a member of parliament (MP) must contend with to ensure survival: the first, naturally, is electoral victory; the second is the politics of electoral development – when elected, an MP is expected to successfully deliver development to their electorate.

Finland's county council elections were the first regional or municipality elections in the history of the country in which women won the majority of seats. In total, female candidates snapped up 53 percent of county councillor spots in the elections.

Women dominated the polls to the greatest extent in the Western Uusimaa municipality, where they accounted for 68.4 percent of elected candidates. Women also won over 60 percent of seats in the municipalities of Vantaa, Kerava and Central Uusimaa.

Sounding bugle for the upcoming municipal polls in Delhi, the state election commission on Tuesday notified the wards that would be reserved for Scheduled Caste and women candidates in north, south and east municipal corporations.

According to the notification, 46 of the total of 272 wards in the three civic bodies are reserved for Scheduled Caste's candidates including women, while 114 general category sears have been kept for women candidates.

Political parties are all set for the upcoming elections in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It is a very important demographic with 403 assembly seats. It has also become important to see the women representation among the leaders and the voters in the elections in this biggest state of India.

Uttar Pradesh is home to the India’s first female chief minister – Sucheta Kriplani (1963-67). She was also the labour and industries minister of UP, multiple-time member of parliament, and general secretary of congress. It, therefore, becomes interesting to see how far has this state come in women’s political presence?

Mia Mottley, who shot to international fame during the Cop26 climate talks and oversaw Barbados’s break with the Queen last year, has won a second term as the Caribbean nation’s prime minister.

The 56-year-old’s Barbados Labour party (BLP) won all 30 seats, up from 29 in 2018, in an election marred by complaints that thousands of Covid-positive Bajans were denied a vote.

WOMEN empowerment. Very obvious now in any given society. Anywhere in the world, sans for few countries like Russia and North Korea. We should applaud the women involvement. She is no longer the weaker sex. They can be on top of any situations.

The involvement of women in active politics in Pampanga can be an interesting case study. Two ladies already became governor of this province. Juanita Lumanlan Nepomuceno and Lilia “Nanay Baby” Pineda. There were several lady mayors who held the office with distinction. Annette Flores Balgan of Macabebe, Corazon Lacap of Masantol, Gloria Ninang Ronquillo of Sto. Tomas, Malou Lacson of Magalang, Mylyn and Esmer Pineda of Lubao, Yolly Pineda of Sta. Rita.
